COMPETITION HAIR TUTORIAL

This years competition hair will be middle part into low pony, unless specified differently from your instructor. Please note that recital hair may vary. Note that competition hair is subject to change on a yearly basis and some classes may have specific hair requirements (please ask instructor). You will need hair-colored or clear rubber bands, bobby pins, comb/brush and hairspray.

PERFORMANCE EYE MAKE-UP TUTORIAL

This tutorial will help with competition EYE makeup – please make sure to apply the following AFTER your eye makeup: foundation, mascara/false eyelashes and lip color (see info below). In this video we use Motive Makeup brand, however if you can find similar products matching these colors you are more than welcome to use other brands and products to fit your budget. Competition Makeup Guide

Motive Makeup brand is what we suggest our dancers use for best makeup results. Alternative products can be found or sold at stores like Ulta, Amazon, Walgreens, Shopko, Target, etc.

PREPARE YOUR FACE

Start with a clean face
Apply a primer to the entire face and neck

EYESHADOW & LINER (Eyeshadow Reference Video)

Motives Element (used in video)
Morphe Palette – 9T Neutral Territory Artistry Palette
Maybelline Palette – The Nudes Eyeshadow Palettes

LASHES & EYEBROWS:

Apply fake eyelashes with eyelash adhesive, you can cut the length of the lashes to best fit you.
- Fake eyelashes are optional, but recommended
- Younger dancers can use mascara instead of fake lashes
- Apply mascara to real and fake eyelashes
Use eyebrow pencil to fill in the eyebrows

FOUNDATION & CONTOUR

Do this after eyeshadow to prevent fallout
Apply foundation to the entire face and neck by using a makeup sponge or foundation brush
Optional Contouring Face (Contouring Reference Video)
Blush Optional – Apply a blush to the apples of the cheeks – blend well! (Motive color – “MINK”)
Finally powder the whole face with a loose translucent powder, you can also spray with a finishing spray (matte) that will hold the makeup

LIPS (Deep Berry RED Lip Color)

Apply lip color to lips with full coverage
Alternate lip colors:
- Motive lip color – “SEDUCTION”
- NYX Butter Lipstick – Moonlit Night
- Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid – 36 Red Punch
- L’Oreal Infallible LIP PAINTS 326 Sultry Sangria
